Many leaders make the mistake of believing that they can only develop people like themselves-in personality, temperament, natural abilities and socioeconomic background. But that is not true. Leaders can develop many kinds of people. The Leaders you're developing may take some of those things and add to themselves if they see positively fit, but you as the Leader help them discover their greatness. You enable them to bring out their best qualities and abilities. Most importantly to see the ones you're developing be successful, you have to believe in them that they will do their best, appreciate them for who they are and always praise accomplishments.
Here are 3 things that are required for a person to become a leader:
**Desire**The ability to become a leader begins with desire. It is the burning WANT that's inside you. How bad do you want to achieve your goals?
**Relational Skills**The ability to relate to different kinds of people, personalities, work ethics and the way people relate to you. How do you come across to each one of your team members? They are the most important abilities in leadership. Without them, a person cannot lead effectively.
**Practical Leadership Skills**These are the "how tos" of leadership that a person acquires through your modeling, equipping and developing.
"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." John C. Maxwell
